House wife?

So I totally felt like a house wife yesterday. I had the day off from work, so the first thing I did was went and got my hair cut. I came back home and had to make brownies for Markus to bring to work. After that was finished, I decided I wanted to make cookies for me to eat. While they were baking, I made marinade for the steaks we were having for supper. After the cookies were done, I decided to work on the pants I am trying to hem. I just received a sewing machine from my Grandma's friend and I'm still figuring out how to use it. I need to use a blind stitch, so it's a little more difficult. I think I almost figured it out. Once I finished one leg and then took it apart because it didn't really work out, I started preparing supper. I made steak (well I marinaded them and started the grill, Markus grilled them. I messed up the hamburgers I tried to grill the other day.), fried potatoes, and steamed carrots and zucchini. It all turned out pretty well. Then after supper, we cleaned. I do have to say though, I think I would enjoy doing those kind of things every day compared to going to work, or maybe I just haven't found a job that I really enjoy yet.

If you had to wear clothes from one designer the rest of your life, who would you choose?

So I've been thinking lately about what my personal style would be if I had an unlimited amount of money and could wear whatever I wanted. After much thinking, I decided that I would have a very classic style. I like form fitting, figure flattering clothes. I like patterns that are very simple, especially polka dots. I love the styles of the 1950s when you could actually see where a woman's waist was. It is a style that will never go out of style. Here's some examples of why I love the '50s:

So some of these may look a little old, but just look at how flattering those dresses are! They definitley show the hour glass figure.



So I started searching and trying to find updated dresses from today with the same kind of styling. It is pretty difficult with the popular styles today being so loose cut. However, I ran into one designer that I absolutely fell in love with. The styles aren't exactly the same as they were in the '50s, actually they're kind of early '60s, but I love her clothes. And that designer is Kate Spade.

Christmas Decorations

Even though I really dislike winter, I do have to say that I love Christmas. And even though I am totally against Christmas decorations being in stores in like September, I have been thinking about Christmas a lot lately and found some really cute decorations. We probably will not be putting up a lot of decorations this year due to a lack of money, so in the spirit of Christmas I decided to post them instead.

I started by finding pillows:

And this would go really well on my couch, even though it may not go well with the rest of my furniture, but who cares! It's Christmas! :)

Fitting Room Etiquette

This is for those of you who have never worked in retail and don't realize how difficult it is to keep a store clean.

1. Read the signs. If they tell you to only take a certain amount of items in the fitting room, then maybe you shouldn't take like 20 items in with you. If they kindly ask you to place your unwanted items on the rack on your way out, maybe you should kindly do so. There is a reason for everything, so obviously those signs are there for a reason.

2. As mentioned in most fitting rooms, please bring your unwanted items outside of the fitting room you were just in and place it on the rack that says unwanted merchandise, or something of the sort. It is very unpleasant walking in a fitting room to find nothing on the rack and fitting rooms full of clothes hanging or even sitting in piles on the floor. Are people really that lazy? I can't imagine what their closets must look like. Point is, you're not at home. Please be polite and put your things on the unwanted rack.

3. Speaking of piles on the floor, PLEASE put your clothes back on the hangers. It can't possibly be that difficult to hang something. If it is, I definitely do not want to see your closet.

4. If you decide after you leave the fitting room that you do not want an item, it is not okay to just place it anywhere in the store. That just makes you a pain in the butt. Instead, there are fitting rooms all over the store, along with employees, or you could even give it to one of the employees at the registers on your way out, just don't set it wherever you feel. That is my biggest pet peeve ever. At least in retail.

5. As mentioned in a previous post, please close the door when you are changing. It is just awkward and unpleasant walking into a fitting room and seeing someone else changing.

6. I would really appreciate if people didn't go into fitting rooms 15 minutes before the store closes with 50 items of clothing and leave 40 of them behind in the fitting room (not even on the rack). Yep, that one happened last week, and 40 is not an exaggeration. I was just about done cleaning everything up, and I was putting away one of the two piles of folded clothes I had left. I come back and there is a fitting room FULL of clothing. Absolutely ridiculous! I mean how impolite can you be? At least they were left mostly hanging, though I don't think there could have been one more item hung in there... Plus half of it was juniors clothing, which obviously was not for her... Just please be considerate!

7. Men, I would appreciate if when you tried on dress shirts, you wouldn't take out all the paper and cardboard, throw it all over the floor and leave it there, then take out the pins and leave them scattered, except for the few that you decide to use and scratch love notes into the doors with. There is a garbage can right outside the door. Not cool! I do have to say though, mens dressing rooms are BY FAR less messy than womens.

8. And remember to always wear underwear! :o)

Lesson #1: Wash before wearing

So I'm sitting in the break room enjoying my lunch, and in comes one of the other employees. "I am so disgusted right now," she said. "There is a lady in the dressing room with the door open trying on skinny jeans without any underwear on!" So much for lunch...

Ok, first of all, why would you be trying on clothes with the dressing room door open? It was a busy day with a lot of people around. If you're that comfortable with your body, good for you, but you are in a women's dressing room in a retail store. I'm sure almost all the other ladies who want to try on their clothes do not want to see that. There are doors for a reason.

Second, WHY WOULD YOU NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR? Especially when trying on skinny jeans. That is absolutely disgusting. 9 times out of 10, the jeans you are trying on will not fit, meaning those skinny jeans will be going back out on the shelf after your nasties touched it. And usually it's the employees who have to put them back out on the shelf... Plus, think of all the people who may have touched it before you tried it on, of all the germs that are lingering on that pair of pants. Who knows, there may have even been a person before you that decided to try them on without underwear on! Oh so gross. I just have to hope that there are not many people who decide to do that. Thank God for hand sanitizer!

Lesson learned: Always wash your clothes before wearing them. You never know whose nasties may have been touching them.

Introduction

Being my first blog ever, I figured I should start out explaining where I'm coming from and what I'm planning to do with this blog. I currently work in retail and have had a few other jobs previous to this. I also just graduated from college and just bought a house with my boyfriend (well he bought it, I'm living in it with him). Working in retail, there are a lot of things that I am learning about the job and about people, and then there are a whole lot of pet peeves I am developing. These pet peeves are coming mostly from customers who have probably never worked in retail or a customer service position before, and I need to vent about them somewhere. I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is getting sick of listening to me complain, and he also doesn't understand how much work it actually is to work at a retail store. So I decided to create a blog on things I'm learning in life and things I think other people need to know. Enjoy :o)
